- About the Artist
Born in Winnipeg, Dan has spent much of his adult life living and exploring other regions of Canada acquiring a varied background from General Contractor to therapeutic riding instructor and meditation instructor. While working in the woods of Nova Scotia, Dan became aware of the simple beauty of wood grain. Looking for a way to share his passion for the forest and share his vision of the inner spirit of the tree, Dan carves out beautifully unique and one of kind bowls and special items that bring pleasure to a plethra of senses, the sight, the smell, the touch.
These days you can find Dan creating his stunning pieces in his studio at the Edge Gallery (where I'm sure he would happily introduce you to the trees!)
Bowls by Dan Waldman
When we drink a toast it is to honour all of the senses. The boquet for the nose, colour for the eyes, taste for the pallet, the plink of crystal for the ear. The process of creating Dan’s bowls lend a similar experience. The shape of the bowl reveals itself with a shout out to all of the senses. Each hit of the chisel and hammer rings its very own tone. Fragrence is delivered from the chips and dust as the grains appear. As the grade of sandpaper reaches its finest sheet, the deeply hidden detail of fine grains are allowed to share their secrets. The sensuality of the touch as the oils and polish are slowly applied. Ya’ari Bowl are born from locally found Beurls, recycled woods and gifts. Every bowl is unique and unto itself.
