- About the Artist
Jessica Thompson is grateful she realized her passion for creation at a tender age and this purpose has held her as a willing captive ever since. She made her very first book with the help of her wise Aunt Ruth at the age of six years old and the joy of painting paired with the freedom of the written word took possession of her life. From an early age Thompson took comfort and joy from a world full of creativity and animals.
Born, raised and supported in Winnipeg, Manitoba she is a keen observer of her world’s ever changing landscapes and her society’s obscured reality. With relentless fervour and self-taught processes Thompson bends the rules of colour, dimension and scale in an attempt to challenge her viewers’ perceptions of themselves and their relationship with the nature around them.
Thompson is a passionate lover and defender of animals. She finds herself most satisfied when her art can speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Absolutely incapable of turning a blind eye, Thompson has rescued and re-homed dozens of stray cats off the streets. Her own home is full of fur and paw prints and hair balls and humour and love.
